Synopsis

Until recently, unaccompanied minor asylum seekers – known as AMA’s – were generally permitted to remain in the Netherlands, even if their asylum applications were rejected. They learned Dutch, attended Dutch schools, lived with Dutch families, and, in essence, integrated, without being deported. This was to change, leading to a new initiative implemented last year: underage asylum seekers with no prospect of a residence permit are now accommodated at Campus Vught.
