On September 22nd of last year, a small boat carrying over seventy Tunisians crossed the Mediterranean Sea. Shortly before the coast of Sicily, near the village of Scoglitti, the passengers were disembarked, thirty meters from the shore. Fourteen of them drowned when the captain inadvertently dropped them near a sandbank. A photograph of one of the refugees being resuscitated appeared in newspapers around the world.
