Synopsis

Bound by hardship and parental neglect, Tess shouldered the responsibilities of mother, father, and older sister to young Del until she blossomed into a woman. Watching Del experience the joys of first love, Tess recognized the lost years of her own youth, sacrificed to domestic duties. It was not heartbreak that awaited her, however, but a deeper weariness. As her body, worn from labor and self-denial, began to fail, Del prepared to leave her sister for the man she loved.
