Synopsis

The quiet rhythms of country life offered little to hold Carmen’s interest; she lived for the letters from Jessie, a childhood friend who painted vivid pictures of city adventures. When tragedy struck – the death of Jessie's mother – Carmen found herself under his roof. He pledged to marry her and to care for her family, a prospect that seemed idyllic. But the reality of living with Jessie soon shattered that vision, revealing a darkness of character that her naiveté had shielded her from.
