Synopsis

For the majority of our shared past, humankind’s numbers increased gradually. Then came innovations that yielded greater sustenance and extended lives, resulting in a century of unprecedented growth – a quadrupling of the population. This spurred visions of a planet choked by overpopulation. Yet, the rate of growth itself reached its zenith in the 1960s. Since then, fertility has declined sharply with industrialization and development across nations. The global population is now projected to sta
