Synopsis

The crested black macaque, a primate of singular appearance, is found only in the rainforests of Indonesia, including the island of Sulawesi. These remarkable black monkeys, with their distinctive punk-like crests and copper eyes, first captivated wildlife cameraman and biologist Colin Stafford-Johnson a quarter of a century ago. Sadly, their numbers have since plummeted by nearly 90 percent, prompting the filmmaker to return to the island in search of answers and a way to offer assistance.
