Within the vast expanse of Alaska, Admiralty Island holds a singular distinction: it shelters the world's greatest density of bears. Though roughly half the size of Yellowstone National Park, the island supports four times the number of grizzly bears. The island's original inhabitants, the Tlingít people, have named it Kootznoowoo, a name that translates to "Fortress of the Bears."
