Synopsis

Koko, a 28-year-old lowland gorilla, is known for her unique communication with her mentor, Francine Patterson, through sign language. Proficient in English, Koko possesses, according to Patterson, “a good sense of humor” and “a strong sense of self.” Her life at Patterson’s Gorilla Foundation in Northern California includes experiences with art, television, and playful interactions with the male gorillas Michael and Ndume.
