Synopsis

A near-fatal accident dashes George Lucas's youthful ambition to become a race car driver, redirecting him toward a career in filmmaking. He invests his own fortune in the elaborate special effects for an ambitious new "space opera," but progress proves agonizingly slow. With the aid of talented new colleagues, Industrial Light & Magic galvanizes to complete the film by its deadline. *Star Wars* premieres to global acclaim, yet Lucas himself remains strangely unfulfilled by the outcome.
