Palermo’s skyline is defined by over a hundred magnificent, ancient palaces. Their owners strive to maintain these historic homes, undertaking restoration work at their own expense. While the state mandates expensive measures for monument protection, it offers little in the way of assistance with preservation. These palaces are integral to Palermo's identity and a vital component of its economy.
