Synopsis

To raise funds for necessary repairs to number 227, the tenants held a sidewalk sale. Lester had pleaded with Mary not to sell his aunt’s old, rather unsightly lamp, but she disregarded him and sold it for five dollars. When he discovered this, Lester was angered, though his frustration stemmed from more than just the loss of the lamp itself; hidden within it were the proceeds from the sale. The tenants, incensed by Mary's actions, effectively ostracized her. Fortunately, the woman who had purch
