It aims to be a gradual, atmospheric mystery thriller. The pacing is slow, that’s for sure; and there's some element of mystery present, though it isn’t particularly captivating. The visuals—the set design, camera work, lighting, and special effects—do create an atmosphere, and the sound and music choices are appropriate. The costumes are acceptable, and the acting is decent. The setting involves water, and the (alchemist's) earth symbol appears repeatedly. That’s a mystery in itself. Things begin to falter with the forced slowness; characters avoid stating even the most basic facts and don't converse when it would be logical. This prevents any meaningful development of the characters or a sense of clarity within the confusing environment. Fog is abundant, both figuratively and visually, but this doesn’t improve the narrative. The characters aren't typical, but they are poorly written and don’t evolve. Some viewers have criticized it for "woke propaganda"; while there are preachy moments and irritating aspects, they aren't as severe as in some other original productions. I found the use of multiple languages to be quite effective. The fundamental problem is the script: it’s poorly written. The direction unnecessarily prolongs what little story exists across an excessive runtime. And ultimately, all the mysteries resolve into… nonsense. They are diversions. My rating of 4/10 acknowledges the efforts of the production crew and actors; otherwise, it would be a 2/10. Don’t spend your time on this, as I did. P.S. After checking, I discovered that the central plot closely resembles a 1973 Doctor Who episode ("Carnival of Monsters"), but expanded to eight episodes.
