Jesse Eisenberg attempts an impression of Charlton Heston while playing what seems to be the final person alive, surrounded by zombies who appear intensely irritated. An early narration hints at how he’s managed to avoid being bitten and explains something about the risks involved with using the bathroom, before he runs into "Tallahassee" (Woody Harrelson) on a damaged highway. Believing they are both still human, they team up and set out looking for "Twinkies"—the snack food, not anything else. They locate a grocery store where they quickly rescue "Wichita" (Emma Stone) and her twelve-year-old sister, "Little Rock" (Abigail Breslin), only to realize that they are the ones needing help this time. A chase then unfolds between these last four survivors, leading into roughly an hour of humorous escapades as they try to find refuge—initially in Bill Murray’s Beverly Hills home—before a final showdown at a funfair erupts, which would have been improved by Ennio Morricone's music. The characters work well together; Harrelson delivers a performance reminiscent of his early "Cheers" days, Eisenberg and Stone build a believable connection, and Breslin observes the events with an air of knowing amusement. This is an enjoyable film, boasting clever writing, sharp one-liners, and nods to other zombie movies and their actors. Its brevity prevents drawn-out fights; instead, we get brief bursts of violence using a wide array of weapons, including a food mixer.
