This movie is a boarding school mystery that blends horror elements with some comedy. A young woman accepts a scholarship to attend a prestigious preparatory academy (Virginia Madsen), which upsets her boyfriend (James Wilder). He cautions her about stories circulating regarding a sinister agreement among the staff, but she disregards them until unsettling events lead her to question his warnings. Sherilyn Fenn portrays a student and Richard Cox takes on the role of an understanding instructor. “Zombie High” (1987) combines aspects of “Disturbing Behavior” (1998) and "Dead Poets Society" (1989), though with a playful, over-the-top feel. There’s also a nod to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956/1978). The title is somewhat deceptive because you won't find classrooms filled with actual zombies, but it fits in a figurative sense. It’s enjoyable watching Virginia Madsen at a younger age—she was 25 during filming—and Sherilyn Fenn delivers a solid performance as well. The film has a running time of 1 hour, 33 minutes and was filmed at School of Cinema-Television, USC, in Los Angeles, California. GRADE: B-
