Zero Point tells the story of growing up in Estonia through the eyes of a teenager whose mother experiences schizophrenia. Johannes, who has a look similar to Matt Damon, enrolls at a new school where the female students are strikingly attractive—except almost everyone else seems determined to make his time there unpleasant. He’s also contending with a mother who won't take her medication and creates constant turmoil for those around her, friends outside of school attempting to involve him in criminal activity and substance abuse, and a musician who took Johannes’ lyrics and is now claiming them as his own. It feels like he’s reached an impossible point, and ending it all seems appealing. The question becomes, what will he do? Märt Pius delivers a strong performance as Johannes; watching him brought back memories of my own high school experiences and made me feel protective of the character, as if he were a close friend. I won't soon forget the moment when he’s reading his biography aloud in Swedish while being scolded by his teacher, immediately after discovering a note from classmates containing cruel remarks about him. The other actors also do solid work. Linda Kolde is very good portraying Liisa, a classmate who holds a grudge against Johannes, and Saara Kadak shines as Bianka, an attractive student with a warm smile who feels compassion for him. I definitely suggest checking this one out.
