Z for Zachariah depicts the efforts of three individuals striving to endure and connect in an isolated wilderness setting following some sort of catastrophe. The film's focus is largely on the initial suspicion and evolving connections among the characters. These developing relationships are later jeopardized by romantic desires each man harbors for the only woman they’ve relied upon for a considerable period. The narrative progresses slowly throughout, with occasional glimmers of optimism as this small group devises methods to enhance their limited existence. However, these brief moments of hope are diminished by uninspired interpersonal conflicts. Z for Zachariah squanders its exceptional cast in service of an unremarkable film.
