The persistent sense of youthfulness is remarkable, even as characters approach their end. About six months ago, the initial poster for this film generated considerable excitement, including my own. I haven’t encountered posters quite like it, not even for films such as 'Blue is the Warmest colour' and 'Nymphomaniac I & II'. It's clear that the director, who previously won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA for 'The Great Beauty,' has presented another familiar idea concerning exceptional fictional characters. The narrative focuses on their lives, particularly when they face challenges. Michael Caine’s casting was what initially drew me in. This is another well-crafted movie thanks to the dedication of the cast and crew. It seems likely that the film will be nominated for several categories at the upcoming Oscars and other prestigious awards ceremonies, including for Caine's performance. The impression it gives is more geared towards award recognition than box office success. Regardless of the film’s subject matter, 'love' appears to be central to everything. It explores human feelings for one another, the pain of losing someone you love, and simultaneously experiencing new affections. The movie effectively illustrates how we navigate love throughout life and just how firmly we hold onto it until the very end. The theme was ambitious, and what’s depicted feels grounded in reality. However, it also incorporates elements that seem to represent a different perspective on truth. For example, a Buddhist monk portraying serenity, an overweight man kicking a tennis ball into the air – these are all signs of youthfulness in those who have long since passed their prime, representing a yearning for something beyond their limitations, which is precisely what the title suggests. I don’t anticipate that everyone will enjoy this movie as much as I did, because it isn't intended for a general audience. However, giving it a try and then forming your own opinion is worthwhile; that's one way films like these can resonate with viewers who are selective about what they watch. 8/10
