The production design and costumes in "Young Guns" are exceptionally convincing, successfully recreating the feel of the era. It appeared that westerns had fallen out of favor with general moviegoers not long before this film's arrival, and it was questionable whether they would ever regain their former popularity; however, this movie emerged and featured a cast of young performers who each played important parts, which virtually ensured a large audience of similarly youthful viewers. Nevertheless, the film has merits beyond that. The western genre has always maintained a dedicated following, and after seeing this one, it's easy to grasp why. It presents a compelling narrative, and most importantly, the movie moves at an excellent pace while also being thoughtful and educational—qualities that are rarely seen now.
