It’s interesting to ponder what became of Nova Pilbeam; she delivers a strong performance in this unassuming romantic thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The story revolves around a film star who is killed by her former spouse after he grows tired of her numerous relationships. Her remains are discovered on the shore by one of her admirers, "Robert Tisdall" (Derrick de Marney). He seeks out law enforcement, but is spotted fleeing the scene and subsequently becomes the focus of their investigation. The narrative then veers into a somewhat farcical direction; he’s apprehended, followed by numerous misunderstandings and displays of police inefficiency before ultimately setting out to clear his name with assistance from the previously mentioned 18-year-old Pilbeam. While it isn't among Hitchcock's finest works, moments of suspense and tension do arise—though the conclusion proves disappointing—it’s sufficient enough to fill around 80 minutes.
