This film arrived during a peak period for the 007 series. It was created at a time when James Bond movies were genuinely thrilling and enjoyable, something that draws criticism from those with a particular mindset. However, I find it completely captivating. The movie showcases a wide variety of locations, even venturing into outer space. The stunning visuals contribute significantly to its appeal, placing it among the best in the franchise—I’d rank it fifth. Much of the story unfolds in Japan, and filming took place there as well. While *Thunderball* served as a primary influence for Austin Powers, this one likely comes in second. That's actually a positive thing because contemporary Bond films simply wouldn't spark any creativity—not even enough to motivate someone like Nolan Ryan to pitch. The film was released when piranhas were perceived as a serious threat, and that element is incorporated into the plot. The villain (who I call "Blowhard") keeps piranha as pets, and it’s not hard to imagine what he uses for bait. It's packed with action sequences, picturesque landscapes, attractive women, clever dialogue, and inventive gadgets—essentially everything you could want. It seems that abundance is why so many critics dislike it.
