It’s easy to see why this one has slipped from view. One possibility is that the filmmakers attempted to disguise Sean Connery as someone of Japanese descent, but the effect was more akin to Leonard Nimoy with an unusually hairy chest. Alternatively, perhaps it's faded because the film feels more in line with Roger Moore’s Bond than Connery’s. Regardless, the movie begins promisingly before its quality declines toward the finish. The initial portion showcases Connery as Bond, and at times the visuals are strikingly dreamlike... but it ultimately devolves into a portrayal of 007 resembling Leonard Nimoy, which is disappointing. I don't feel I can entirely fault the film, because there are genuinely enjoyable segments. However, the image of James Bond disguised as a Japanese man—a hairy-chested Leonard Nimoy, no less—is difficult to shake, and that’s what lingers in your mind long after you’ve seen it. Still, if you can overlook that particular element, it remains a reasonably good entry in the 007 series.
