A passionate photographer named Jonas, portrayed by Eric Klotzsch, embarks on a journey across Germany’s less-traveled countryside alongside his friend Philip, played by George Taylor. During their travels, they encounter Boris, a Polish hiker, and Michal Grabowski brings him to life. Philip identifies as gay and enjoys being openly expressive; Jonas is straight and more reserved, but the two are easygoing with each other until their new companion begins to test what appeared to be a purely friendly connection. There isn't much plot development in this movie. The three companions explore some peaceful, old structures within the countryside, stumble upon remnants of Nazi history, and occasionally go for impromptu swims before Philip and Boris unexpectedly begin a relationship. The conclusion left me feeling quite pleased, and I found myself considering whether their shared experience was about strengthening an existing bond or creating one anew. There’s plenty of beautiful scenery to appreciate, the conversations and actions are amiable, entertaining, and engaging—though not particularly stimulating—and there's a certain attraction between the two men that is strangely subtle yet captivating and quite personal. It wasn’t what I anticipated, and that’s ultimately a good thing.
