X-Men: Apocalypse feels consistent with what one anticipates from a Marvel X-Men film—a narrative lacking substantial detail, but abundant in action and visual spectacle. To be honest, this is precisely the kind of experience I, as someone interested in science fiction and fantasy, would both anticipate and desire. The X-Men are confronted by a new danger: the world’s initial mutant. Predictably, this mutant turns out to be an “Übermutant,” significantly more formidable than any ordinary mutant. As you might expect, this Übermutant intends to conquer and destroy the world. I genuinely appreciated this villain; he's a straightforwardly evil character—a powerful antagonist who deserves to be defeated without unnecessary attempts at making him sympathetic or exploring his backstory. He’s simply bad, and that’s enough. The plot isn’t exceptionally complex, but it functions well within the boundaries of a Marvel superhero movie. It accomplishes its purpose without being dumbed down or overly frivolous. The film takes place in the earlier timeline established by X-Men: First Class, and introduces several new members to Professor Xavier's team, although initially they are on the opposing side due to Apocalypse’s actions. The film maintains a reasonable rhythm, and as previously noted, it features numerous action sequences and special effects. I personally thought the special effects were impressive, even remarkable at times; being interested in visual effects certainly enhanced my enjoyment. The movie's conclusion leaves room for more X-Men films, and I would definitely want to see the series continue. I really enjoyed spending nearly two and a half hours watching it on television.
