It’s disappointing when a monster that has been developed in detail is mostly viewed from afar or obscured by darkness for nearly the entire film; it really diminishes their ability to be frightening or captivating. Hearing characters describe how terrifying or fascinating these creatures are doesn't have the same impact. Presenting a character’s history and actions without ever integrating those elements into the narrative felt like an unnecessary inclusion. The performances were good, and there’s nothing technically wrong with the script itself, but the plot—likely limited by financial considerations—is simply underwhelming, which makes the whole experience dull.
