The initial moments, starting with Carly Simon’s memorable theme song and the image of young girls sporting voluminous hairstyles on a boat, led me to believe I was in for a good time – and mostly, that's what it delivers. "Tess" (Melanie Griffith) is tired of dealing with employers who are only interested in her romantically, so she hopes things will be different when she begins working for “Katherine” (Sigourney Weaver). Willing to entertain new concepts, this woman takes credit for one of her assistant’s ideas; and after Katherine suffers an injury while skiing, "Tess" uncovers her boss's dishonesty and decides to pursue the idea herself – with the help of "Jack" (Harrison Ford). It becomes clear that this concept has significant potential—a very lucrative one, in fact—but as their professional relationship develops into something more personal, we learn that "Jack" also has things he’s keeping hidden. The film generally moves at a brisk speed, and the characters are appealing; it builds steadily toward a satisfying ending. Griffith is excellent here, bringing a vibrancy and charm that's hard not to enjoy. Sarandon and Ford both provide solid support, with the latter seeming happy to play a more relaxed, charismatic role. Alec Baldwin appears briefly as her unpleasant boyfriend, and I’m pretty sure I spotted "Cyn" (Joan Cusack) looking like she belonged in Culture Club or Dead or Alive! Perhaps it runs a little too long, but among feel-good movies, this one has a solid story, good chemistry between the performers, and a resolution that felt earned.
