I really liked this film! 2023’s *Wonka* turned out to be quite good. It tells its own story inspired by Roald Dahl's book, so it isn’t a direct retelling like the versions from 1971 or 2005. I didn't find it as captivating as those earlier movies, but I do value—and honestly prefer—that they chose to take a different approach here, and it works well. Timothée Chalamet is great in the main part. The actors supporting him are also entertaining, including Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, and Mathew Baynton – their dance sequence as the Chief of Police early on was funny. The music throughout is solid too. Tom Davis and Olivia Colman add to the enjoyment. All the characters played by those actors after Lane could have easily been awful, but thankfully that wasn’t my experience—they were very well-written, acted, and cast. I haven't mentioned everyone yet, like Lofty, an Oompa-Loompa. Hugh Grant is excellent as this character with orange skin and green hair, even though they used his best moments in the previews; I usually skip those to avoid spoilers, but I didn’t manage to do so this time. Overall, I consider it a success. They deserve praise for making it, especially since I was initially unsure about the trailers (aside from Grant).
