Sarah Polley has now established herself among the very best directors working today. It’s remarkable how this movie manages to avoid becoming bogged down in dialogue; instead, it offers moments of both humor and genuine sadness, along with well-developed characters, a sense of purpose in its pacing, and exceptionally precise execution. The superb performances combined with Polley's direction result in a genuinely enjoyable and affecting experience for the viewer. Beyond that, the film delves into numerous complex subjects: faith, authority, gender dynamics, sexual assault, and modern exploitation.
