The film earns a score of 55 out of 100. A person returns to the wilderness area where they spent their childhood and runs into the animals living there. While I like Whannell’s work as writer and director, he seemed to depend on familiar horror tropes—like damaging a vehicle without paying attention or taking relatives to a remote location hoping it will strengthen their bonds. Chris Abbott and Matilda Firth both gave strong performances, but Julia Garner's face remained largely unexpressive throughout. The shift into a wolf form was well-done; instead of rushing the change, it unfolded slowly, which made it deeply frightening and heartbreaking. However, ultimately, this felt like a standard werewolf story.
