I wasn’t going into this with high hopes, to be honest. After nearly two years of cycling through everything Netflix has to offer, I'd been spending ages just looking for something worthwhile to watch. So, wanting to avoid giving up and heading straight to bed, I decided to check out Wish Dragon. I’m really happy that I did; it was a genuinely touching film with beautiful animation and strong performances. It’s tempting to see this as just another version of Aladdin, but set in China, but it's actually something deeper than that. As it turns out, the story of Aladdin has Chinese origins. It’s really about broken promises being kept again, how important true friendships are, whether money matters, and what success really means. The animation quality is outstanding, and everything looks fantastic. The characters are all very appealing—some are even incredibly endearing—and the villains are believable too. It's ninety minutes of pure enjoyment, with a comforting, feel-good vibe similar to that of The Iron Giant. And that’s saying something coming from someone like me who loves science fiction. I definitely suggest checking it out.
