I’m really fond of older science fiction – it’s a genre that streaming services rarely do well by – so I still prefer to purchase physical copies. Fortunately, I managed to get this one for less than £5. The cast seemed decent enough on paper, so I didn't expect it to be terrible. The musical score is appropriately space-themed and the special effects aren’t awful; however, the performances are surpassed in their cheesiness by the screenplay itself. Freddie Prinze Jr. & Matthew Lillard portray a pair of substitute pilots dispatched to a warship situated within a conflict between Earth and the "Kilrathi," carrying a highly confidential communication. Saffron Burrows appears as their squadron leader, and then they set off to rescue humanity. I’m not exaggerating when I say that the acting is truly dreadful. David Warner and Suchet must have needed the money; and Jürgen Prochnow and Tchéky Karyo seem just as stiff as the sets themselves. I might watch it again, but I wouldn't choose to!
