Horse movies exist in a category all their own, and *Ostwind* doesn’t deviate from that formula. It delivers precisely what you'd anticipate from this kind of film: horses, and young women who like them—or, as with the central character, gradually come to appreciate them. The movie manages to tell its story of an outsider in a fairly captivating way, although it lacks unexpected twists toward the end, and some dramatic moments feel contrived. The connection between Hanna Binke, the lead actress, and the horse Ostwind is what truly carries the film. She convincingly portrays the transformation from someone who doesn’t connect with horses to someone who loves them. I'm interested to see if future installments can maintain that sense of organic change.
