I entered this film with low expectations, and my assessment ended up being both accurate and misleading. Throughout the entire movie, Nicolas Cage didn't utter a single line of dialogue; the closest he came to speaking was during fight scenes when he grunted "ah." The other characters felt largely insignificant, aside from the female character and the animatronics themselves. This isn’t really a scary film at all. I did find myself apprehensive about the animatronic Sara—or what I believe her name was—but the others just appeared too silly to be frightening. There were moments when the picture on screen seemed distorted, stretched, compressed, or even shaky. The storyline essentially reworks the concept from Five Nights at Freddy's, attempting to make it more distinctive. The group of rebellious characters embodies every horror movie stereotype imaginable: a clever one, a naive one, a dim but attractive one, a logical one, and a reckless leader who puts themselves in danger. They’re called kids within the film, but I suspect the filmmakers intended them to be teenagers acting impulsively—as if to ask, “Why not?”—but they came across as young adults behaving without any real purpose. Seeing Nicolas Cage fight the animatronics was entertaining, and I think those scenes were exceptionally well-executed. The "sex sense" that exists for some reason just had the alligator observing them; you know, watching intently…for a prolonged period of time—an unusually long stretch. Then, at the conclusion, Nicolas Cage gets his fancy car, and the girl simply hops in without any conversation, which was odd to me, especially since it seemed unlikely he would have said anything anyway. She appears remarkably unfazed, almost as if she had just witnessed her friends being murdered by animatronics. She casually drinks Nicolas Cage’s "Punch" soda, and that's the extent of it. The ending felt strange. I got the sense they killed off Tex and the mechanic character simply to have the building demolished—except for the girl, apparently. It was a really bizarre movie; wow. Did I even mention that Nicolas Cage seemed strangely drawn to a pinball machine in the kitchen? This film was just odd.
