This film isn’t for everyone—especially if you have past experience with someone named Pasternak! It feels like something straight out of Agatha Christie's playbook: a wronged and bitter individual gathers all those who’ve caused him trouble onto an airplane, and the pilot? Well, that’s revealed early on. This kicks off six separate stories, each about two hours long, meant to show what people are really like, generally at their most ridiculous. One segment unfolds in a roadside diner where employees hatch a plan to deal with a loan shark who's been giving them trouble. I thought the strongest of these involved a man stranded on a lonely road with a flat tire and an encounter with a local he’d previously offended. Another pokes fun at bureaucracy when a demolition expert receives a parking ticket while preparing to safely demolish a building—he now has to decide whether to get the ticket dismissed or take matters into his own hands. The one I liked least centered on the son of a rich man facing a murder charge, where corruption and blackmail are rampant as everyone tries to influence the outcome. It concludes with a groom carelessly confessing an affair during his wedding dance, leading to mayhem and hurt feelings—the chef gets more than he bargained for. Taken together, these stories highlight imperfections in human behavior; it could easily have been called "The Seven Deadly Sins," covering things like greed, anger, and lust. The writing is good, sometimes genuinely funny, other times intensely awkward—enough to make you squirm a little. I was particularly drawn to the cook in the second episode (played by Rita Cortese).
