It doesn't take long for "Wild at Heart" to devolve into something difficult to follow, getting lost in David Lynch’s characteristic tendency toward excessive self-focus. This approach effectively annoys, distances, and disappoints viewers who prefer more conventional narratives, which is arguably the point; however, a significant issue arises when the plot itself gets dropped, remaining just as unresolved at its conclusion as it was earlier on. The difficulties faced by Sailor and Lula aren't really dealt with in a way that feels complete, and the character of Johnnie Farregut vanishes entirely without any further explanation. While there’s something engaging about the film’s unusual style, it ultimately falls short of being truly rewarding, seeming to offer little more than a flimsy foundation for a movie that proves quite forgettable.
