It's possible to overlook obvious attempts to push an agenda through inaccurate historical portrayals, such as: * The protagonist being surrounded by female friends. * A number of people of color that doesn’t match what was actually present during that time period. * Every male character depicted as prejudiced, sexist, malicious, and unintelligent, with the only exception being the protagonist's partner—who is Black—and who comes across as hesitant, fearful, and unreliable, though he ultimately does the correct thing. * A female police officer of Indian descent solving the case. * The judge portrayed as a person of African descent (I was struggling to contain my laughter at that point; I doubt even one colored judge could be found throughout the entire British Empire at the time). If you can accept those things, then it’s not an unpleasant film. The visuals are appealing and the performances meet the typically high level expected from British productions.
