The movie Wicked, directed by Jon M. Chu, attempts to translate the popular stage production to film, and mostly succeeds in doing so. The visuals are remarkable; the sets burst with color, and the depiction of Oz has a cinematic quality that feels both recognizable and new. Cynthia Erivo’s portrayal of Elphaba provides a significant emotional layer, really conveying the challenges her character faces. Ariana Grande as Glinda contributes a sense of appeal and lightheartedness to the role. The musical numbers stand out as the strongest part of the movie. It’s a good movie for those familiar with the musical and people who are discovering it for the first time. While there's potential to refine aspects like pacing and dance sequences, the acting and visual presentation make it worth seeing.
