A bus belonging to “Krstic & son” travels from an unspecified region to Belgrade just before the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941. According to Dusan Kovacevic, the author, the narrative draws inspiration from actual occurrences and individuals. Each passenger had their own reasons for needing to reach Belgrade quickly, unaware of what awaited them. Their individual narratives and personalities become interwoven through a sequence of surprising events that will have you laughing out loud. This combination of comedy and drama has achieved widespread popularity throughout former Yugoslavia; even younger audiences are familiar with many lines from the film, which have become ingrained in popular culture. Dusan Kovacevic creates characters who feel incredibly genuine and vibrant. The performers are exceptional, all hailing from the country’s leading theaters. It's pointless to recount the plot and diminish the pleasure of experiencing it firsthand. To illustrate its quality: the play has been performed continuously in theaters across the nation for over three decades! I won’t bother discussing technical aspects or cinematography because I lack the expertise. What truly matters when watching is whether you find yourself losing interest at any point—and this film avoids that entirely. And how do you feel afterward? Are you energized? Do you want to see it again? Absolutely. It's humorous, engaging, evokes laughter and tears. You’ll observe that different cultures share more similarities than one might think, and that fate can deceive everyone, regardless of location. If you enjoyed "The Marathon Family" or "The Balkan Spy," be aware that this production comes from the same creative team and will likely appeal to you as well.
