The connection between “Primate” and “Whistle” is evident; both involve a peculiar object. Beyond that, there's not much to set them apart. The story kicks off with an interesting idea: an old Aztec item that, when activated, seems capable of manipulating destiny and summoning death to find whoever uses it. It’s basketball player "Horse" (Stephen Kalyn) who initially reveals the article’s dark power, and then when a new student, “Chrysanthemum” (Dafne Keene), discovers it in his locker, it becomes active again, affecting her, her classmates, and their professor (Nick Frost). They do have someone available to translate the markings on the object, but can she stop death's determined and violent pursuit of them? Apart from the unique concept, the narrative follows a predictable pattern; we also encounter the increasingly common trope of a female-female romantic relationship. It’s frustrating that horror movies don’t ever feature male characters developing relationships instead of being eliminated early on. Ultimately, there's nothing fresh here—just a series of events where mostly deserving people are systematically removed, leading you to wonder: if you found an old, dirty object in your locker, would you blow into it? I wonder if we should anticipate "Whistle Too"?
