Drawing from events that occurred roughly eight years prior, the movie recounts what happens when a Scottish island community, longing for whisky, suddenly receives an unexpected boon: a vessel laden with a vast quantity of Scotch liquor crashes nearby. The residents are set on recovering as much as possible, even though the local Home Guard Captain—an Englishman portrayed by Basil Radford—and tax officials try to stop them. It's a heartwarming and amusing story brought to life through a group of seasoned comedic performers in a delightful and enjoyable fashion. Filming took place on Barra in the Outer Hebrides, and the landscape contributes significantly to the film’s appeal.
