The film could have benefited from some trimming; it felt stretched out by perhaps fifteen or twenty minutes and had noticeable slow periods. Despite this, it presents some genuinely strong concepts, particularly regarding adult children caring for aging parents while also pursuing their own personal goals—a situation that feels very relevant to modern life. I’ve never been a fan of George Segal's acting; in earlier films like 'Ship of Fools' and 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf', he seemed to believe yelling automatically equated to demonstrating skill and depth. However, his performance here is quite good, managing to evoke concern for his character’s struggles and earning the audience’s support. It’s a well-made film, and Carl’s son Rob delivers some genuinely funny moments in an uncommon appearance before 'All in the Family.' It's enjoyable overall, though it does have some modern political correctness that might be distracting.
