"Where the Crawdads Sing" has emerged as a significant and unexpected success this year – its strong box office numbers seem to confirm that. It's fundamentally a story about survival—in numerous ways—addressing serious issues like trauma, nature’s influence, unfair judgment, and double standards within a screenplay packed with meaningful themes. Daisy Edgar-Jones concludes what has been a remarkable year for her career with another layered portrayal that gets audiences to connect with the complicated, well-crafted main character, even though the film's pace falters a bit during one section in the middle. While I found it occasionally leaned too heavily into melodrama, and the controversial twist at the very end is sure to spark debate—for me, it nearly undermined everything that came before. Despite this, I do suggest seeing it. Rating: B
