A sudden snowstorm strands viewers alongside two individuals sharing the name "W. Davis." Willa, portrayed by Meg Ryan, is attempting to reach Boston with her rainstick, while Bill, played by David Duchovny, is traveling to Austin for a meeting with his new supervisor. The premise suggests we should be invested because these two previously had a romantic relationship twenty years prior, and after some initial cautious exchanges, they opt to recall past events, pulling the audience along with them. However, in reality, there's little reason to care. From its opening moments, the film feels like a lackluster theatrical production. With only the pair of characters to focus on, their storyline becomes progressively dull, their personalities fail to capture attention, and without sporadic announcements from an airport voice – seemingly an all-knowing presence dispensing wisdom and resolution – the experience could easily become tedious. Ultimately, it’s a needlessly elaborate and disappointing melodrama, incorporating nearly every conceivable sorrowful emotion, all while featuring what appears to be the least believable computer-generated snowfall ever witnessed. There's a noticeable absence of any genuine connection between the actors, and the story concludes far more frequently than necessary. If I encountered individuals like these at an airport, I’d likely seek refuge in a very well-stocked bar! The film seems to rely on the reputations of two performers who are considerably past their prime, and it's probable that viewers would be inclined to bang their heads instead.
