This was an enjoyable experience. The initial idea is captivating, even if the execution feels a bit disjointed. ‘What Happened to Mr. Cha?’ from 2021 centers on the actual South Korean actor Cha In-pyo, who portrays himself in the film. It’s not a traditional biopic; instead, it seems to blend fictional and factual elements. Comedy is its primary focus. While there are attempts at emotional depth, the main goal appears to be providing amusement. Does it succeed? Pretty much. The core of the movie is funny and rather distinctive, at least based on my exposure to similar works. I did find myself losing interest roughly halfway through because things started to feel repetitive, but there’s enough substance to maintain a decent pace. The humor, while acceptable, could have been stronger. Cha is engaging in his leading role. He's certainly the most memorable performer; however, Jo Dal-Hwan and some of the supporting cast were also adequate. The storyline is absurd, but that aligns with what the filmmakers intended. It’s not something extraordinary overall, but I did get a fair amount of enjoyment out of it.
