The marketing for this film is baffling; I’m unsure why they chose to present it as horror or even use the title "Wendigo," since the legend itself only serves as a tale heard by one of the characters. I found myself enjoying the movie, which was unexpected given that very little occurs until the final portion—roughly ten to fifteen minutes. The acting is quite good across the board. There are some plot inconsistencies, but I suppose most stories have those. Ultimately, it's a straightforward drama centered on a family’s upstate (NY) trip for a snowy weekend, where they encounter some hostile individuals in an unfortunate situation. From that point onward, the narrative follows a predictable pattern: outsiders upsetting locals, which rarely concludes favorably—and this is no different. If you approach it expecting a simple drama, you'll likely be satisfied.
