Hello everyone. I’m Danny. The reason I’m introducing myself is because this is my first TMDB review—spoiler alert—and I wanted to dedicate it to something that I think deserves more attention. Please keep in mind that everything I’m saying comes from a casual movie fan who enjoys watching films, collecting physical media, and streaming content, and who watched this on Netflix as part of an ImageMovers/Zemeckis film marathon I've been doing. I would totally understand if someone explained to me why this movie is objectively not good. I’m open to hearing other people’s opinions, but with the expectation that they won’t tell me I’m wrong for enjoying it just because some consider it a "bad" film. Because, personally, I think it's really good—perhaps even Zemeckis' best motion-capture effort so far. I haven't seen *Marwencol*, the documentary that this is based on (and I’ll probably have to search for it), but I believe this movie tries to be respectful of Mark Hogencamp’s story and Marwencol. It’s just that Zemeckis wanted to tell it in his own style, with lots of visual effects and motion capture techniques. And in my opinion, it's not so bad. The script also seemed pretty harmless to me. Regarding the performances, Steve Carell is surprisingly good as Mark, and I connected with some aspects of his character, especially his feelings of loneliness. I also liked the supporting characters, particularly Nicol and Roberta. I felt Kurt’s character was a little underdeveloped, but what we do see of him creates enough of a negative impression that you understand why Hogie would be terrified to encounter a Nazi version of himself. Honestly, my favorite part of the movie is that Mark doesn't end up with the girl at the conclusion; he just goes out for sushi with Roberta. I thought that was a great way to finish the film and also send a message of hope to anyone who sometimes or always feels like they won’t be loved romantically, therefore feeling alone. I would genuinely suggest this movie to others because I really enjoyed it and think other people might too. I'd evaluate it based on what I’ve already mentioned, but I believe my 90% score at the top of this page says enough about how I feel. Oh yeah, and this is also my favorite of Zemeckis' motion-capture films. Have a good one, everyone!
