"Weapons" is certainly a bizarre movie, sharing similarities with Brian Taylor’s dark comedy horror "Mom and Dad" from 2017—specifically, the idea of everyday people unexpectedly turning into violent killers. The action sequences are very harsh but also impressively handled. That initial scene featuring children fleeing outside at night is particularly well-shot, enhanced by George Harrison's fittingly named song “Beware of Darkness.” The whole film is beautifully filmed, though that opening does raise a question: can the rest of it possibly live up to this strong start? Unfortunately, what follows feels underdeveloped and unclear, leaving the audience confused with more questions than answers, forcing them to rely on guesswork and speculation to understand its meaning. This approach encourages reflection on what you’ve just seen, which is saying something these days.
