This movie had moments where it could have been exceptional, and while I did find enjoyment in it, I think it fell short of its promise. The filmmaking itself was generally good; the sound design and visual elements were consistently strong throughout. They built a quiet, unsettling atmosphere that steadily increased until the film's darker ending. Tilda Swinton’s acting was excellent—she truly made an impression, more so than any other performer in the cast. I questioned John C. Reilly’s casting, as I don’t typically think of him as a dramatic actor, and his performance reflected that. Ezra Miller was acceptable, but their portrayal felt somewhat over-the-top to me. The film moved at a deliberate pace, perhaps too slow; there seemed to be an excessive amount of setup leading up to the final act, and I’m not sure all of it was necessary. At two hours, the movie felt longer than it needed to be. Ultimately, it's still a decent film with strong direction, though Tilda Swinton’s performance really carried it through.
