Julia (Maika Monroe) and Francis (Karl Glusman) move from New York to Romania so he can begin employment in Bucharest. Unable to speak Romanian, she finds herself immediately disadvantaged, essentially having to manage on her own while he’s at work. One evening, while looking out the window, she believes she sees someone watching her. A wave is exchanged... What's happening? Is it simply a neighbor passing the time, or something more sinister? Her unease intensifies when she discovers that a young woman has been brutally murdered nearby. Chloe Okuno manages to build and maintain an atmosphere of dread, supported by a capable screenplay and Monroe’s performance as a progressively anxious woman who might be in serious peril, or perhaps just experiencing very intense visions. The conclusion didn't entirely satisfy me; it almost hit the mark but seemed hesitant about committing to what would have been a more appropriate resolution. It isn't a superb film, however, it relies heavily on the audience’s imagination and is occasionally quite powerful, offering a unique psychological experience.
