It’s refreshing to find an inspirational film that genuinely delivers on its promise! The story follows Tony and Elizabeth Jordan (T.C. Stallings & Priscilla C. Shirer), a couple who appear to have everything—a thriving daughter, well-compensated careers, and a beautiful home. However, their marriage has deteriorated into conflict, and their child is caught in the crossfire. When Elizabeth encounters Miss Clara at work (Karen Abercrombie), she discovers how to advocate for her family rather than against them. Her renewed faith brings about significant changes in her life and positively impacts those around her; however, will it be enough to repair a troubled marriage? "War Room," released in 2015 as an independent production with a modest $3 million budget, surprisingly achieved the top spot at the American box office. Does it deserve that level of success? As I often do with inspirational dramas, I questioned whether this one left me feeling inspired—and the answer is definitely yes. Moreover, did it manage to draw me into the characters' lives and make me lose track of the fact that I was watching a movie? It certainly did. The film tackles genuine problems faced by families and offers ways to overcome them; I found myself connecting with several of the situations portrayed. The film shares similarities with "Cutback" from 2010, which didn’t receive enough attention, but “War Room” benefits from a larger budget and is consequently more refined overall. It's simply an excellent drama that also provides inspiration. Given its explicit focus on God and prayer within a Christian framework, those who might find that objectionable should probably skip it. The challenge of portraying subjects like this with authenticity and naturalness in film is undeniable, but "War Room" manages to do so remarkably well. The movie has a runtime of 120 minutes and was filmed in North Carolina. GRADE: A
