The film contains what I consider to be the finest battle sequence of the twentieth century, and it's matched closely by the combat depicted in the 2016 version of War and Peace; the musical score is also impressive, particularly how effectively it underscores the Battle of Austerlitz. However, a questionable choice was made when the director, Sergei Bondarchuk, who was forty at the time, chose to play one of the lead roles. While his performance isn't terrible, I feel that a younger performer would have been more suitable for the part.
